Training Boerboels begins with focus
The foundation of training any Boerboel has to be focus and attention. Regardless of the breed, age, size, weight, or height focus and attention to the handler is the foundation. All dogs necessary foundation of instruction must be focus.
To train your African Boerboel focus, we recommend using a 20-foot long line as the leash. Start with a brief period of confinement. The smaller and more on inviting the area the better this will make your dog eager to get away. Next
attach your choke collar like a Q. Make sure they can tighten and loosen.
In the event, your dog tries to resist the collar, do worry it won’t take long to realize this resistance is pointless. The idea is to teach your dog that you have absolute control. At this point, we are building fundamentals by developing attentiveness.
The first step
ext, begin walking with intent. Regardless of your dog is paying attention or not don’t stop. Do not give the puppy or dog any verbal cues. All movements must be towards a specific object. Again, move towards another particular object and move with purpose. Remember we are training the dog to pay attention to the owner. In a few minutes without a glance pick an object and walk briskly to it. Your dog or puppy should realize now when you move you are doing so without his permission. Repeat these steps for the next 20 minutes. Never do we coax. His obedience is not an option. Each time your movements should be at least 50 feet apart no communication voice no non-verbal indicators before we make a move the only way he could be aware of your actions is to watch you.
Finally, a good trained Boerboel will respect his owner as the one. While they are important members of the pack they cannot be more important than the one. Firm handling must be fair.
