My friend and mentor, Courtney Gee (RIP Courtney), visited the Mighty Boerboel kennel in South Africa and noted that the dogs produced were incredibly consistent, but the health issues became apparent over time. Today, if you visit their website, you’ll notice fewer of the original heavily inbred dogs, a clear sign that genetic diversity is key to maintaining both quality and longevity in Boerboels.
At Exotic Boerboels, we’re taking a different approach. By incorporating Prime’s lineage, which traces back to Leo Nium, into a more genetically diverse breeding program, we aim to retain the strength and consistency of these bloodlines while avoiding the health risks of inbreeding. This method ensures that we produce Boerboels with the size, structure, and temperament of legendary lines like Nostras, but with the added benefit of genetic variety, promoting long-term health and vitality.
Mighty Mot was a remarkable Boerboel who passed away prematurely due to being a carrier of Subaortic Stenosis (SAS), a genetic heart defect. His pedigree was exceptional, featuring Nostras Tyson four times, with Tyson appearing on all four legs of his lineage. Despite his early passing, Mighty Mot’s influence lives on through his descendants.
This focus on genetic diversity will allow us to assess Prime’s influence across multiple pairings with different females, ensuring the traits we want to carry forward—without compromising the health of future generations.
