Both breeds are trainable as guard and protection dogs, and with the right care, they can also make wonderful family pets. The two breeds are distinguished from one another, though, by a few significant differences. The five main distinctions between a Cane Corso and a South African Boerboel will be discussed in this blog post.

Cane Corso vs. Boerboel : Appearance

First and foremost, let’s take a look at the appearance of these two breeds. When it comes to size, there is a noticeable difference between the Cane Corso and the South African Boerboel. Boerboels are known for their large size and can weigh anywhere between 150 and 200 pounds, making them anywhere from 50% to 100% larger than a Cane Corso. On the other hand, Cane Corso typically weigh between 90 and 110 pounds.

In terms of color, Boerboels tend to have neutral colors such as cream, tawny, or brown, whereas Cane Corso are often found in brindle, grey, and black. Also, a Boerboel’s coat is usually smoother and shiner than a Cane Corso’s, which can be thicker and rougher.

Overall, the appearance of these two breeds is quite distinct and is one of the most obvious differences between them. So, if size and coat appearance are concerns for you, it’s important to consider these differences when choosing between a Cane Corso and a South African Boerboel.

Cane Corso vs. Boerboel : Temperament

Another key difference between the Cane Corso and the South African Boerboel is their temperament. The Boerboel, a powerful and intelligent dog breed, is one of the largest and strongest in the world. The Cane Corso, in comparison to the Boerboel, is intelligent but more offbeat.

The Cane Corso is a very active and playful breed, whereas the Boerboel is more reserved and protective. This means that the Cane Corso would be a better fit for a family that wants a dog to play with and interact with, while the Boerboel would be a better fit for a family that wants a dog that is more protective and quieter.

Another important thing to think about is how much attention the Cane Corso needs. This breed does best as the only dog in the house, and it needs a lot of love and attention from its owners. Also, the Cane Corso may not be as open to new people and situations, so it’s important to socialize them from a young age to help them feel more confident and get along with others.

Cane Corso vs. Boerboel : Trainability

The third difference between the Cane Corso and the South African Boerboel is their trainability. Both breeds are known to be easy to train, but the Cane Corso is usually more active and willing to learn new social skills. Because of this, they are a great choice for families who want a dog that is easy to train and eager to learn.

Owners can train the Boerboel by incorporating weights to enhance its muscles for sports and hunting. The Boerboel is an intelligent breed, but its strong personality and dislike of being dominated can make training a challenge. However, with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement techniques, this breed can be taught to perform well and excel in various activities. However, with consistent and positive training methods, the Boerboel can excel in various activities.

The Cane Corso and South African Boerboel need consistent and firm training from a young age to learn how to behave well and get along with others.. Both breeds can make great family pets if they are trained and cared for the right way.

In conclusion, Training ease is important when choosing between a Cane Corso and a South African Boerboel. Even though both breeds are easy to train, the Cane Corso may be more willing to learn new things, while the Boerboel may need more attention and patience when it comes to training.

Cane Corso vs. Boerboel : Life Expectancy

The fourth difference between the Cane Corso and the South African Boerboel is their life expectancy. Both breeds share similar traits, but the Boerboel is renowned for its longer lifespan. On average, both breeds can live past 10 years, and many can live up to 11 or 12 years old. This is about the average length of life for most dog breeds.

Both breeds are healthy, but the Boerboel has more health issues than the Cane Corso and most other dog breeds. To keep a buck healthy, you may need to check on him more often and take him to the vet.

In conclusion, both breeds have a similar life expectancy, but the Boerboel may live a bit longer. It’s important to consider Boerboel health issues and take good care of them to ensure a long and healthy life.

Cane Corso vs. Boerboel :  Energy Levels

The fifth and final difference between the Cane Corso and the South African Boerboel is how active and versatile they are. The Boerboel is a very active dog, especially when it is young. It does well in a wide range of activities, such as agility challenges, obedience competitions, protection exercises, and farm work. They do best in homes with a well-fenced yard and lots of space to run around. This makes them a great choice for families who live in rural areas and have a lot of outdoor space.

Boerboel can be difficult to handle, so inexperienced dog owners should avoid them. The boerboel needs a confident owner who can provide physical and mental stimulation.

However, Cane Corsos are active and adaptable. Corsos have been battle dogs, big-game hunters, guard dogs, farmhands, and more due to their size and protective nature. The Cane Corso is smart and flexible, which makes it a great choice for many roles.

The Cane Corso has become one of America’s top 25 dog breeds in recent years. Cane Corsos are great for active families who want a versatile pet.

In conclusion, Boerboels and Cane Corsos are active, versatile breeds with their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s important to consider each breed’s activity level and suitability for your lifestyle before making a decision on which breed to bring home as a pet.

  1. My Boerboel and bullmastiff both were very friendly but even so my bullmastiff was a very Good body Guard and even so my Boerboel was warry about strangers in the street by looking at them then watching my eyes to have my opinion if something goes wrong or not with the stranger my corso was absolutely
different character as a body Guard.
Boerboel,Cane corso, Bullmastif,Dogue de bordeaux.I owned boerboel, bullmastiff and cane corso and I did after university 2 years school for dog’s education in Switzerland one year theoretical by swiss doctors from university & another year practical by swiss & french professionals trainers. There is a difference between Guard and protection dog & will focus more about protection here. Boerboel is the best for farm.About (protection)cane corso is a(ultra) protection dog. Bullmastiff and boerboel are(very good)for protection. Bullmastiff is fantastic protector but I did not use the world(ultra) protection dog for him cause he neither growls nor barks only he do it if he is closed from the aggressive target and cannot reach it. So he always do his job in scilence but very good.I also did not use the word (ultra)protection for the fantastic borboel cause boerboel is (sometimes)a lazy dog for(Gurad) exemple if the door rings he may go to see who is there or he will relax and just watch you(very well) from far opening the door.So if something happend he may be next to your feet for (protection)or still watching from far so he needs more time to jump from his place to protect you in case he is relaxing and he did this case (not rare)but if you are in the street so he is by your side for (protection)specially cause he is on leash next to you. Bullmastiff & cane corso are both famous for the word (body Gurad dog)& the word(corso)in latin means protector.About (Guard)dog as I said borboel is more lazy like to relax (sometimes)and I heared this opinion from a famous Spanish professional breeder of boerboel too which breeds boerboel and corso even he prefers the boerboel. And my boerboel did the same. But bullmastif for exemple he (Guards)the car if you are inside to (protect)you but if he is alone in the car he may Guard it or not he more focus for protecting you than to Gurad. He is more professional as a body guard dog than guarding a place. One more point bullmastif and boerboel they like to analyse the cituation well before reacting for(protection)but cane corso do not take the risk if there is any potential dangerous so he react(more fast). Some aggressors escape from size, face of bullmastiff others get scarey but cause bullmastiff does not bark, analysis, the aggressor can stay in front of you hesitating to agress you or not for a while and if he do it bullmastiff react fast without hesitating, cane corso does not wait he does not take the risk plus he barks immediately. It is proved scientifically that dogs smell if the person is aggressive or not.About level of barking cane corso barks 3/5 Borboel 2/5 Bullmastiff from zero to1/5.So bullmastif is the best for Neighbour.Cane corso said to have the strongest bite force among them 700 psi.Boerboel is more stockier, more muscles than the others, in general males are between 70&90kg & few are 120kg.Bullmastiff male is between 50&59 kilos,i saw one 81kg, European cane corso male between 45 to 50 kg in the standard of FCI and can be 55 but Americain cane corso are heavier from 55 to 68 kg.
I saw one 94 kg & a breeder tolds his male is 100 kg. Dogue de bordeaux male is between 50 to 65 kg and I saw one 86 kg But a very heavy dog than the standard can be not healthy.I never owned a bordeaux but I did a research about him a calm dog with people but attacks your attacker, a fantastic protector dog with(low energy level)&some people prefer that.Sweet dogs.God protects you from the association[with Him].Amin🍓 وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ دَاۤبَّةࣲ… Allah has created every [living]creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four.
